Family Airlines planned long haul flights to start March, 1993. The Department of Transportation withheld certification as long as Myron Barry Michaels remained president because of problems involving his other business ventures. Michaels, who spent 15 months in jail, was ordered by a judge to return $363,000 to defrauded investors. Another attempt to start operations in January, 2004 but that failed also.
